What One Year Can Change in Your Business and How the Next 6 Months Will Transform It

In the last 12 months, I've gone from Virtual Assistant to Social Media and Marketing Strategist, rebranded my business, and shifted my content focus. Let's take the time machine and go back to August 2023. I was at a crossroads. My career was chewing me up and spitting me out. I felt like my audience and some clients were taking advantage of me, and I wanted to be taken seriously. I connected my burnout to the overflow of work and lack of authority my role as a Virtual Assistant has created. As a recovering people-pleaser, I was used to going WAY above and beyond, doing every little thing asked of me because I equated my worth to my work. I thought my clients would leave if I didn't do all the extra stuff ( things I wasn't being paid for). Doing more than my designated services led me to burnout Central and the quality of my services declined because I was taking away from my job to do little things I was asked that weren't a part of my services—all in the name of people-pleasing. I realized I needed a change.

I noticed a majority of my work was in social media marketing. My only source of networking was via social media. The tasks I was fascinated with were all in marketing. I built a business and a brand all through social media. So, why not make it my full-time job? The best part was that I could still do my main love (psychology), which directly ties into good marketing. I did my market research, worked with a business coach, and reinvented my brand; Maria Romano Marketing was born.

One Year Later and Here I Am

I cannot believe how fast time has flown by. I've been in my new role for one year and have placed myself in CEO/ Authority status. By streamlining my services and highlighting a high-ticket offer, I was able to be the business owner I have been trying to align with. No "fake it to you make it" needed. I just became her. It wasn't that my audience wasn't taking me seriously; it was that I wasn't positioning myself as an authority.
